About Taryn Fiebig (1972 - 2021)
Taryn Fiebig began learning piano at the age of nine in Perth. After being awarded a music scholarship at high school, she began learning cello. This led to a music degree with a major in cello performance at the University of Western Australia. Taryn continued to study singing while building her career as a cellist then in 1999 she was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to undertake further vocal training in London. She then returned to Perth to study at the Australian Opera Studio in 2002.
In 2004, Taryn joined the Young Artists Program at Opera Australia; she remained with the company as an ensemble member until 2010 before becoming a freelance artist.
Taryn performed with all the major Australian opera companies, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Australian Brandenburg Ensemble and the Sydney, West Australian, Adelaide and Queensland Symphony Orchestras. Taryn also won 2 Helpmann Awards.
Internationally, she sang at the Edinburgh Festival (in Opera Australia’s production of Bliss), in America for the LA Ear Unit, in the New Zealand Opera company, in the UK with the English Chamber Orchestra and for BBC Radio 4.
Taryn also appeared in concerts as a soloist, singing whilst playing the cello to great aclaim.
Taryn was a world class performer, an inspiring teacher and a wonderful, beautiful person. Her passing, in March 2021 was a devastating loss.
